Story & features

Rayne’s Most Personal Battle Yet...

When we last saw Rayne in 1935, she joined forces with the shadowy Brimstone Society to destroy a supernatural Nazi bid for dominance. Her father, Kagan, an influential Nazi collaborator, was killed in an accident at the close of the War. Cheated of killing Kagan herself, Rayne has spent the last sixty years ferreting out and destroying his many offspring, her siblings. They have banded together and formed the Cult of Kagan, pledging to carry on his legacy of creating a new era of vampire supremacy where humans are mere cattle for the bloodthirsty predators that hunt them. Rayne’s nefarious siblings have created “The Shroud,” a mysterious substance which, when released, renders the sun’s lethal rays harmless to vampires and twists nature into a nightmarish perversion. Now only Rayne stands between an unsuspecting humanity and a horrifying vampire dawn.

CUSTOMIZING CONTROLS

BloodRayne 2 allows you to customize controls. From the Main Menu, go to Options and then Controls. If you are using a keyboard/mouse, select Customize Keys under Input Configuration. If you are using a Gamepad, select either Customize Gamepad Controls or Customize Gamepad Axes under Controller Configuration.

With a gamepad (must be dual analog), you may also need to calibrate your controller when you first begin the game. Select Calibrate Controller under Controller Configuration and follow the steps to calibrate your gamepad.

If you wish to reset the default controls for either the keyboard/mouse or the gamepad, look for the option to Restore default controls under Input Configuration or Controller Configuration.

HEADS UP DISPLAY (HUD)

Health Meter (red bar)
Indicates Rayne’s health and fills as she feeds.

Rage Meter (blue bar)
Fills as Rayne kills enemies with blades, kicks and fatality moves. Fatalities will increase the meter the fastest.

Carnage Marker (markers that move along the bars)
Indicates Rayne’s level of carnage and moves to the right as Rayne kills her enemies using the environment (impaling, fires, killing puzzles, etc.). Once it is entirely to the right, Rayne’s health and rage meters will grow together so she has more capacity for both overall.

Gun Mode Level (Green dots)
Indicated Rayne’s current gun mode level. You upgrade modes by maxing out Rayne’s experience with a particular weapon.

Gun Mode & Ammo Count (red center circle & counter underneath)
Indicates current gun mode and available shots left for that mode.

Gun Experience Meter (yellow ring around center)
Fills as Rayne gains experience with a particular gun. Once it is entirely filled, Rayne will upgrade to a more powerful gun mode. All six weapons have two possible upgrades for 18 weapons total.

FEEDING

Rayne's ability to feed on enemies is the key to restoring HEALTH (the red meter) and a great way to earn RAGE points (the blue meter). To feed, approach the enemy from either in front of them or behind them. Press the FEED button to mount them once they are close enough. Rayne cannot be LOCKED-ON to anything when attempting to FEED.

Note that enemies with melee weapons can use them to block Rayne's attempt to FEED from the front. If possible, knock the weapons out of their hands (using a KICK attack is one way to do this).

To obtain RAGE points while feeding, press either the BLADE or KICK attack key soon after mounting the enemy. Rayne will then perform a FATALITY on her victim. There are also alternate FATALITIES Rayne can perform. To access these, press the FEED keyn an additional time before pressing the BLADE or KICK attack key.

In addition to restoring health and earning rage by feeding, Rayne can also refill her DRAGON PISTOLS' ammunition tank. The DRAGON PISTOLS are powered by blood, and if they run out of ammo they will begin to drain blood directly from Rayne. To refill the tanks, press the FIRE WEAPON key soon after mounting an enemy to feed.

USING THE HARPOON

The HARPOON is a great aide in combat and is sometimes the key to proceeding through a level. To HARPOON a person or an object, you must first be LOCKED-ON to them. Once you have LOCKED-ON press the HARPOON key. If the HARPOON did not attach, try getting closer to the enemy or object. Note that not all enemies are vulnerable to Rayne's HARPOON.

After the HARPOON is attached to an enemy, quickly use the MOVEMENT keys to direct where they will be thrown.

USING RAYNE'S POWERS AND VISION MODES

Rayne has three innate POWERS/VISION MODES: BLOOD RAGE, AURA VISION and DILATED PERCEPTION.

BLOOD RAGE can be used to increase Rayne's attack and defense. AURA VISION is helpful for Rayne to find enemies or objectives. Use DILATED PERCEPTION to slow down time so that you may more strategically conduct an attack.

There is also a second and third TIER to each POWER/VISION MODE. Rayne obtains these abilities throughout the story (in the full version).

GENERAL GAMEPLAY STRATEGY

FEED early, FEED often. You never know who or what is lurking around the corner. Keeping Rayne's HEALTH bar full is a necessity, and keeping a full rage bar is nice as well.

Study your environment before you begin an attack. There may be poles or other ledges that can give you the advantage in a tough battle.

Rayne's DRAGON PISTOLS are a unique weapon. The more you use them, the more powerful they become.

Study the MOVES LIST in the pause menu. Slashing your blades all day may be fun, but there's nothing like mastering the more complex attacks to get the job done a little quicker (and to fill that rage bar too)!

When Rayne gets surrounded, use a CIRCLE COMBO to thin out your enemies!

Switch to BLOOD RAGE when your HEALTH gets low. Not only will it increase your defense and attack, all damage while in BLOOD RAGE will be taken out of the RAGE points instead of your HEALTH.

Examine the environment. If you see something sharp, it's likely you can use the HARPOON to throw an enemy on it. If you see some faulty electronic devices try throwing an enemy at it to... complete the circuit!

If you get lost, turn on AURA VISION. You can see the aura of enemies as well as an icon indicating Rayne's objective.

Check your OBJECTIVE list! This will remind you what your current mission is.

There are many explosive devices scattered around the world. Use them to your advantage, but don't get too close!

Use DILATED PERCEPTION when fighting a large boss to evade their sweeping attacks or to study their weakness.

Simply throwing an enemy off a high surface can build up your CARNAGE meter real quick. Get even more CARNAGE points by throwing multiple enemies in rapid succession.

Q & A

Q: I have a video card with only 1MB of memory on it. I meet the system requirements otherwise. Can I play BloodRayne 2??
A: BloodRayne 2 requires a video card with at least 32MB of memory on it. Sorry, you will need to upgrade your video card.

Q: BloodRayne 2 seems really choppy and slow. I have a fairly low system and I was hoping to play... A: In the Graphics Options Menu try turning your screen resolution down. The default is 640 X 480, but you will get faster frame rates at lower resolutions. Unfortunately, some video cards can have trouble with lower resolutions. If this happens to you, try varying your resolutions in the game to see which resolution gives you the best performance.

Q: I have a 3Dfx based card. Will BloodRayne 2 use this card?
A: Sorry, but no.

Q: 1280x1024 mode runs slow.
A: Not all resolutions are best for all video cards. Try switching to a smaller resolution if you experience trouble with higher resolutions.

Q: The game says that I have less than 200MB of Virtual Memory free. How do I fix this so that BloodRayne 2 runs best?
A: Select Control Panel, then System, then Performance, then Virtual Memory. It is best to change this setting so that Windows manages virtual memory.

Q: Game gives an error message saying that you're out of memory.
A: You need more virtual memory. See previous Q&A for how to change your virtual memory settings.

Q: BloodRayne 2 levels do not load as quickly as I would like.
A: Add more RAM to your computer. The more RAM that you have, within reasonable limits, the faster BloodRayne 2 will load and run.

Q: The dialog skips, pops, or drops out. I have a SoundBlaster Live card. Your box says that it supports this card. What's up with that?
A: You have old LiveWare software and drivers. Visit the Creative Labs web site and download LiveWare 3.0 or higher.

Q: I don't have a SoundBlaster Live card, but I have dialog that skips, pops, or drops out. What about me?
A: You should download and install the latest drivers from your board manufacturer.

Q: Should I use DirectX 8.1 with BloodRayne 2?
A: Yes. DirectX 8.1 or higher is required.

Q: I have set up my controls so that I use the keys on the number pad. I can't seem to get combinations of keys to work (i.e. run and jump at the same time). Why?
A: Because of the way the number pad works, it can't understand two keys on the number pad being pressed at the same time. You should reconfigure your controls so you will never need to press two keys on the number pad simultaneously (i.e. run and jump for a running jump).

Q: How do you Uninstall BloodRayne 2?
A: Go to control panel and select Add/Remove programs.
